Volunteer Leadership awards

Marilyn Ritchie


Marilyn has been a volunteer for 10 years with Special Olympics Calgary. She has become a coach in bowling and a program assistant for intermediate athletics. She has developed mascots for National Games, and has competed scrap books to share athletes and has engaged many other parents and caregivers into the cheering section. She also goes out of her way to ensure that all administrative requirements are met for any event, and is a key member of the Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraising events. Marilyn believes in giving athletes continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, courage, joy and that nothing is impossible.

Chris Turnbull


Chris has been a volunteer for 16 years with Special Olympics Calgary. He is coach in several programs including floor hockey and golf and refereed at this years National Winter Games. He is a firm believer in the power of sports and how it positively affects our athletes and their family lives. He makes everyone, athletes, coaches, parents and caregivers feel at home and very welcome at the practices he is involved in. He listens to the athletes and they respond positively to him because he is genuinely interested in them and their lives. Chris has also contributed countless hours helping at fundraising events, in the office  assisting with various tasks and is our number one photographer! There is nothing this individual would not do to contribute in moving Special Olympics Calgary forward.
