2020-2021 Registration Information


Welcome to Special Olympics Calgary's 2020-2021 Program Season

We are in the process of slotting all athletes into fall/winter programs based on the intent forms we have received. Due to the restricted numbers of cohort maximums, facility restrictions and confirmed volunteers, we are only able to have a certain number of individuals in our programs. We have chosen to run three-week pilot programs in certain sports to assist us in ensuring we can adhere to all safety measures and protocols.

If you wish to participate in a SOC fall/winter program, please proceed with the registration process, so you’re prepared for the possibility of enrollment if programs continue to run. Due to limited numbers allowed in our programs, please understand that you may be on a waitlist until space becomes available in that program. We will notify you of your status in your program, after the selected pilot programs are completed.

 

Return to Play Considerations

We want you to make an informed decision about if participating in Special Olympics programs is right for you at this stage. We encourage you to explore the following resources before completing the registration form:

  • Review Special Olympics Alberta Return to Play Guidelines HERE – these are the basis of all Special Olympics Calgary programs and the guidelines all programs will follow 
  • Consider your risk status. It is recommended that High Risk Participants consult with a healthcare provider. All members must read the High Risk Participant document. If you have a health condition that places you at high risk, a doctor approval note will be required before you will be permitted to participate.
  • Watch Special Olympics Canada’s What to Expect VIDEO to see what is expected of you, and how you can prepare for programs to keep yourself and others safe.
The 2020-2021 program year will bring many changes, some known, and many unknown.  Please be prepared that your sport program may look different from what you are used to, and changes to programs may be on an individual program basis.

Known Changes:  
  • Be prepared for health screenings before every program session. Members will not be allowed to participate and will be sent home if they cannot pass the health monitoring standards.
  • Physical Distancing must be maintained during program where possible.
  • MUST be worn to, from and at all times during SOC programs, unless otherwise instructed by coaches.
  • will be in place. Members will only be able to participate in one sport per season. This includes both athletes and coaches.
  • Due to facility maximum restrictions, only registered athletes and volunteers will be allowed to enter our program area. If you have not submitted that you need 1-1 support, you are not permitted to be accompanied by a caregiver into the facility. No spectators will be allowed to stay and watch.
  • As required by our facilities, individuals are only allowed to enter the facility 15 minutes prior to the start of the program, and must leave no later than 15 minutes after the program ends. Members are not permitted to hang around outside program facilities. If you are not able to adhere to this, you will not be able to participate in the program.
  • In consideration of all members, failure to follow safety policy and protocols will results in immediate suspension from the program.
 
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are unable to offer the following fall/winter programs this season:
5 Pin Bowling – Paradise Lanes
Active Start/FUNdamentals
Curling
Figure Skating - Learn to Skate
Floor Hockey - Development
Floor Hockey - Youth
Health & Wellness 1
Speed Skating
Swimming - Novice
Swimming - Youth

Please note: Swimming Intermediate and Swimming Advanced has moved to the Spring/Summer season.
 
 
Possible Changes:  
  • Programs may be modified, shortened, postponed or cancelled for the 2020-2021 season.  
  • Some programs may only be able to run outdoors.
  • Some programs may only have skills and drills and no contact or league play.
  • Program capacities may be reduced depending on the sport, facility restrictions, and volunteer support.

You will be contacted with all the specific details pertaining to your sport, prior to the start-date if and when you are confirmed.

Once you have made the decision that participating with SOC programs at this time is right for you, follow the link below to complete the Electronic Registration Form. Due to capacity and cohort mandates, you may not be able to participate in your first choice of sport, so to help us try to accommodate each individual’s sport preferences, please also indicate your second and third sport choice preferences. Please only complete one registration form per member.

We will send out further communications about spring/summer selections in the new year closer to the start of those programs.

 

Waiver Forms & Declaration

All athletes and volunteers must have signed forms and waivers completed before they can attend a Special Olympics program. You can sign them electronically by using the links below, or access the pdf's to print, sign, and send in below.
