Gifts in Kind provide us with invaluable goods that are essential to run our programs and services. Some companies also offer their services free of charge: for instance, by printing an event program or providing professional advice. All of this reduces our overhead costs and allow us to spend more resources on our greatest priority: enriching the lives of individuals with an intellectual disability through sport.

No matter your age or the opportunity, there is no event too small to make a difference. There are a number of creative ways you can utilize a personal fundraiser to support Special Olympics Calgary.

Here are a few ideas...

• Host an Event
  Organize a garage sale, talent/fashion show, bowling night, bottle drive or scavenger hunt. Golf tournaments, run/walk for a cause, a cycling event or a mountain hike or climb and more are all great opportunities to promote healthy living and exercise while raising money for a great cause.
  
  
• Make your upcoming occasion extra 'Special'
  Whether it is a birthday, graduation, bridal shower, wedding or any other life occasion - consider offering guests the opportunity to make a donation in yours or someone else's honour.
  
  
• Workplace campaign
  Setting up an internal campaign through work is a great way to engage employees, build team spirit, and make a difference in the community. This could include doing something fun throughout the office like chili cook-off, great bake off, scavenger hunt, step challenge or themed dress down day with perks for the highest fundraiser being a reserved prime parking spot.
  
  
• Sell Something
  Do you have an item you are a master at making or a service you are skilled at? Jewellery sales, food fairs, garage sales, car washes, craft sales, esthetic services, haircuts, yard work, the list goes on and on. Sell what you are great at and donate a portion or all of the proceeds to support Special Olympics programs,

Do you have skills or experience, professionally or as a hobby, that you can use to benefit Special Olympics Calgary? This could involve planning a social media campaign, completing a funding application, data inputting, technical support, DJing an athlete dance, or planning a fundraising event. Make your donation count - many corporations will match their employees’ donations up to 100 percent, which means double the impact. If your company offers this, we encourage you to think about taking advantage of it, since it’s a unique opportunity to make your money go twice as far for a cause you believe in. To find out if your company participates, try searching your internal company website and looking for tabs with names like “corporate responsibility,” “volunteering,” or “community affairs.” You can also try entering your company’s name into Google with the word “Foundation” after it to see whether your company has its own charitable foundation. If nothing else, try contacting human resources to see if they can help you track down special charitable programs.

Special Olympics Alberta is the provincial governing body, and as such carries the charitable registration number 11878 1145 RR0001. If you are making a donation, please make sure you indiciate Special Olympics Alberta - Calgary affiliate for the funds to be directed to Calgary.

Donations $25.00 and above are eligible to receive a tax receipt. Tax receipts will be issued from our provincial office, Special Olympics Alberta. Please contact them at 1-800-444-2883 to see the status of your tax receipt.
